field trips

If we weren't traveling full time our girls would be in school, but since they're not we're taking advantage of visiting all the busy places during the week. It's one of the perks of homeschooling. This week we did two field trips. Thursday we went apple picking (one of my favorite fall activities).

We tried a new place that Emma found on Instagram. At first we thought it was just ok. It has a lot to do - corn pit, peddle cars, slides, cow train, hay bale pyramid, plus a bunch of other things.

Then we took the wagon ride out to the apple orchard, which totally changed our opinion of this place. We had to pre-purchase a bag and could fill it with as many apples that would fit. When we got dropped off we were told we could taste as many apples as we wanted and could fill our bag with all different varieties.

Fun fact for Austin - the US grows approximately 200 different apple varieties. This orchard grows 14 varieties (some of them we'd never even heard of).... and they all taste totally different, which we learned by tasting as many as we could.

We've gone apple picking every year for probably the last 7 or 8 years and this turned out to be our favorite apple picking experience.

Next up... homeschool day at the MN Renaissance Festival. Yep, that's a thing. We got discounted tickets because our kids are homeschooled and we got to go during the week when it wasn't very busy. Win win.

Last year I think Emma waited in line for an hour and a half for the trampoline. Not today...

It always cracks me up that she loves a big ol' turkey leg.
