change of plans

When we bought our boat it had been sitting in a boatyard for 8 years. It needed a lot of work, including rebuilding both engines.

As we were pulling into Bequia yesterday one of our engines overheated and is pretty much unusable. Our other engine has had issues for a while and now we're not confident it isn't going to break any second. Long story short... we weren't comfortable starting a 90 mile/16 hour trip with basically half an engine. Yes, it's a sailboat and we could just sail. But there are times we need to use the engines, and if the weather were to get dicey we might need the engines to help us along.

Since it was the weekend there wasn't much we could do to try to fix anything. Monday we have phone calls to make and parts to purchase to hopefully at least get the engines working enough to get us to a place where we can get some real work done.

Instead of wallowing in our sadness, anger and disappointment... we decided to make the most of our time here with swimming, paddleboarding, exploring and coconuts on the beach. There are worse places to be stuck...
